In Osaka, Mister Ogata directs clandestine erotic films. In the meantime, his wife suspects her first, late husband to be reincarnated in a carp and fantasizes on her son, while Ogata looks at his handicapped step-daughter with a lustful eye.
Based upon Akiyuki Nosaka's novel, this introduction to anthropology through pornographers (literal translation of the title) allows Imamura to question once again the Japanese society and its changes. He takes a dark, hilarious look at the growing production of pink cinema (the local erotic cinema) and opposes the modernity that disrupts the taboos and the traditions of the country and its folklore.
