«The perception of the unattainable is just an illusion of reality» - and it is precisely for that reason that L’Étrange Festival has been created: to be on the watch, and help keeping alive a different kind of cinema.

18 years of discoveries and confirmations already, and yet our enthusiasm never subsides.

From this new edition, some of the talents of tomorrow’s cinema will emerge. Prodigious transfer thanks to the presence of Kenneth Anger, the pope of American avant-garde cinema, who honored us with the composition of his carte blanche selection, in addition to a «tenanizing» concert, and a photography exhibition shown for the first time.

The unruly director Jan Kounen offers us a spotless carte blanche, a key to better understand his universe.

Three focuses are dedicated to unusual film makers: the dircreet Mathieu Seiler from Zurich; Ben Wheatley, the new wunderkind of British cinema; and the american documentary maker Ron Fricke, whose majestic films keep on dazzling the world of cinema.

For the third consecutive year, the international competition sees 21 full length movies fighting for the NEW GENRE AWARD and the AUDIENCE AWARD. The 18th short films international competition will pick among the 45 films from all over the world the winners of the GRAND PRIX and the AUDIENCE AWARD.

Two colorful nights, including a free one offered by Canal+, have been planned to replete all the night owls among you. Finally, a Motor Psycho thema, about speed-crazy drivers, will let you «speed up» your senses.
