Carte Blanche Marjane Satrapi

Marjane Satrapi was born in 1969 in Rasht, Iran. Her origins, her point of view as a child on a country submitted to the restriction of individual freedom, at the onset of the 80s in the midst of the islamic revolution, will fuel the inspiration of Persepolis, her first and masterly graphic novel, published in four volumes from 2000 to 2003, a great popular and critical success, translated into several languages and banned in her native country. She relates her Iranian childhood, her return home after several years studying in Austria, up to her settling in France in 1994. She then turned to filmmaking by first adapting Persepolis (2007) in animation, then Chicken with Plums (2010) as a live action film.

The Voices (2014) was Marjane's first foray into the USA and the first time she worked on a script not written by herself, with Ryan Reynolds as a surprising psychopath who loses his gentle composure when he stops taking his medicine. This fascinating horror comedy doubly rejoiced us by winning our New Genre Prize and Public's Prize !  Taking on a new challenge,  the adventurous Satrapi has just delivered Radioactive, a thorough biopic about Marie Curie with Rosamund Pike. Not only has he left a lasting imprint on French comic books, but she's also captivating as a director by her esthetic choices and her very personal vision between reality and onirism. And her tastes, as the program she's cooked up for us shows, are in sync with her talent.
