A father and daughter travel through an apocalyptic world where light seems to have disappeared, save for a few meteorites lighting up the darkness. In this nightmarish, violent and absurd land, it is said that whoever sees the Night God shall perish.
By directing this series of living paintings, worthy of Peter Greenaway or Nicolas Winding Refn's work, like so many pieces of a phantasmagorical puzzle, Yerzhanov leads us into a tacky Kafkaesque maze, unafraid to claw at the powers that be. One of the very remarkable films at this year's Moscow Festival. Fascinating and chilling.
