Accompanied by his brother who dreams of being an actor and their epileptic sister, John moves into a decrepit house, the only property he owns since he got out of prison. But the local mobster and his gang, the police and the authorities all seem to team up to dispossess the trio of the old house.
If The Owners is a new take on Constrictors / Constructors don't be fooled. Yerzhanov totally reinvents his previous film, and so doing gives it its own style, both formally (a certain radicality, a careful construction of the frame) and thematically (the absurdity of a corrupt system that ruthlessly crushes outsiders). Like Ken Loach revisited by Takeshi Kitano.
