An anthology of supernatural stories from contemporary Korea.
Essentially Anglo-saxon in origin, with Hammer as the torch-bearer, the tradition of anthology films has had little impact on Asia. Hong Won-ki clearly understands this and offers a collection of terrifying tales that draw as much from the structure of Tales from the Crypt comics as from K-Horror. A guardian tree that infects humans by turning them into plants, a lake haunted by a monstrous creature, a fatal cult of appearance, a ghost purchased to help schoolgirls succeed in their exams… Efficient and beautiful, the segments unfold without a dull moment, between shamanism and classicism, in a syncretic blend that forgets neither Korean folklore nor Western influences.
