A damning investigation about Australian Anne Hamilton-Byrne, a yoga teacher and founder in the 70s of the Santiniketan Park Association, which behind its new age fraternity front turned out to be a sect sequestering many people amongst which were children, kept under neuroleptic medication and gathered through illegal means.
At once stupefying, painful and atrocious, this macabre tale traumatised all of Australia in the 80s. Previously noticed with her excellent documentary The Triangle Wars, about the battle between developers of a huge commercial center and indignant locals, Rosie Jones, in The Family, shows us some incredible archive footage found through meticulous research. Beyond its subject, this is probably one of the best recent documentaries.
