Poster Limbo

In a crepuscular Hong Kong, rookie Will Ren and veteran cop Cham Lau team up to stop a serial killer who attacks women and chops off their hands...

Soi Cheang (Dog Bite Dog, SPL2) is back with this tacky trippy noir movie, the kind that leaves you no respite et haunts long after the screening. It's difficult to avoid superlatives when Limbo shows such mastery in terms of acting, editing, photography, as well as the bewitching score by Kenji Kawai. Soi Cheang's heroes are tired and depressed, vampirized by this existential (in)quest, lost in an apocalyptic megalopolis, that makes the rainy Los Angeles from Seven look like Sesame Street. We weren't ready for such a shock.
