Accused of murdering his boss, militant reporter Dimas is sent to jail. His arrival in Block C - ruled with an iron fist by a sadistic warden - coincides with a wave of gruesome inmate murders. What if Dimas had brought with him an uncontrollable entity?
Behind the pun title, a tribute to Mamoru Oshii, the director of Impetigore ventures into unexpected territory, with a film that is by parts gore elevated to a form of art, rising anguish, and unrestrained slapstick comedy. Paradoxically, by choosing a fun approach, he has never been more political. Implicitly, Ghost in the Cell is a self portrait of the artist, with art being his sole means of expressing his anger while keeping it in check. As graphic as it is hilarious, this generous and electrifying movie will stimulate your soul, your eyes and your funny bones.
