Fumika, a young student, finds herself possessed by the ghost of hitman Kudo. She agrees to help him accomplish his posthumous vengeance by lending him her body.
Japanese ghost movies rarely rhyme with humor. Yet this is what Kensuke Sonomura (also a stunt coordinator, notably in The Furious) succeeds in doing with Ghost Killer where his playful directing shines both in comedy scenes as well as in especially efficient action sequences. We take great pleasure in following Fumika’s adventures, as she gradually pokes fun at the virile archetypes and unshakeable solemnity of traditional yakuza films. It must be said that Akari Takaishi’s performance, both audacious and hilarious, uplifts the film with all her energy.
