Ann sees her life disintegrate one day when, returning from work, she is raped. She flees, wandering the roads in a daze, a prisoner of fear and of the constant feeling of being hunted.
It’s about time Ida Lupino was recognized as a major filmmaker. A poignant portrait of a shattered heroine, played by the fabulous Mala Porters, and served by a straight to the point direction, Outrage is maybe Lupino’s greatest film. Never before had cinema depicted the trauma of sexual aggression with such veracity, showing how an assault to the body can push the mind into the abyss. Strikingly modern, the film, without giving in to caricature, also brushes figures of male characters capable of listening to a woman’s voice and taking her suffering seriously.
