L’Étrange Festival never was an event like the others. It isn’t limited to a single genre, it isn’t just an image pipe: it charts a path in a search for truth. L’Étrange Festival was alway built with many disparate, opposing, and yet deeply complementary facets, to better reveal the beauty of its soul. A perpetual quest for the other, exploring differences, shadows, and light.
To face the unknown, the upsetting, the repulsive. The world in all its rawness. That of the meaning of life, of unlimited fraternity. A search for the self through the prism of others' works and creations.
Created in 1993, L’Étrange Festival was privileged to appear between two pivotal periods: the golden age of fringe cinema and a certain future of imagery.
It constantly chose to introduce us to impulses we never suspected and awakened us to differences. As testified by the feast offered by this 30th edition, from new generation to confirmed elder filmmakers.
