After a film on childhood (Naked childhood) and a film on married life (We won't grow old together), Maurice Pialat hits home with an uncompromising portrayal of life, its anxiety and the difficulty to accept the death of people we love. Through an extreme sense of minimalism, he gives Hubert Deschamp, an eternal typically cocky French actor, his only - and best - major role, where he plays opposite Philippe Léotard (The track) and a very young Nathalie Baye.  A film to discover again.
