Weekend

Week-end - 1967 - Color - 104 mn - French - France, Italia - Drama
Direction : Jean-Luc Godard. Production : Ralph Baum, Philippe Senné. Screenplay : Jean-Luc Godard. Editing : Agnès Guillemot. Photography : Raoul Coutard. Music by : Antoine Duhamel. With : Jean Yanne, Mireille Darc, Jean-Pierre Kalfon, Jean-Pierre Léaud.

Corrine and Roland Durand, a bourgeois couple who are cheating on one another, take the road for a weekend to their relative, hoping to get a hold of an heritage. But their car is stuck in a maze of trafic and accidents.

This is most likely one of the last great films of Godard, before his radicalization during the Mao era. The director plunges the popular Mireille Darc (Galia) and Jean Yanne (an agitator of the TV and radio scene) in an agressive and mean world, a chaos made of wrecked cars, bodies on the road and car horns. An epic testament-film, filled with bravura moments such as this 300-meter tracking sequence shot. The Apocalypse according to Godard.
