Direction : Andrzej Zulawski. Production : Antoine Gannagé, Alain Sarde. Screenplay : Andrzej Zulawski, Étienne Roda-Gil. Editing : Marie-Sophie Dubus. Photography : Jean-François Robin. Music by : Stanislas Syrewicz. With : Sophie Marceau, Tchéky Karyo, Francis Huster.
Léon, a fallen Hungarian prince, meets Mickey and his gang of robbers, and then Marie, a prostitute he falls madly in love with.
Loosely based upon Feodor Dostoyevsky’s The Idiot, Żuławski unleaches, in a stream of wild energy, lost souls who bump into one another and cause a few sparks to fly. With Sophie Marceau (who’ll fall in love with the director during the shoot) Francis Huster (Parking, Le Faucon) and Tchéky Karyo (Dobermann) are part of a frantic and tormented love triangle that an always moving camera captures, like a never-ending line of coke. Electrifying!
