During WWII, Michal, a Polish man, becomes a Resistance fighter after the murder of his family by Ukrainian soldiers.
Andrej Żuławski’s first feature, after two acclaimed TV movies, The third part of the night is a piece that reflects its author’s interrogations (the film is set in 1940, the year of Żuławski’s birth) and his father’s war memories. Before Possession, which is already oddly present in a few scenes, before The most important thing: love (Romy Schneider heard of Żuławski through this film), the world of the filmmaker is already here, filled with fantasy and grotesque, violence and horror, duality and madness.
