Living as a recluse in a tavern-like house, a grieving mother, hoping to retrieve her son, calls upon the Saints’ magical powers. She senses other presences, real or imaginary, and starts to hope…
It took Mariano Baino thirty years to make his second feature film after his cult Lovecraftian Dark Waters, extending its dark world, its deliquescence and alchemical poetry. Co-written with his muse, actress Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni (Opera) who delivers an incredible trance-like performance, Astrid's Saints is a requiem where madness infiltrates the image as much as those dripping water drops. It's a sublime artistic gesture that transcends cinema, a spectral work that haunts us long after the screening. We can’t believe our eyes.
