In an 18th century Austrian village, a young bride gradually loses all hope in wedded life and slowly sinks into despair, attracting the suspicions of her entourage: could she be possessed?
The Austrian duo of Goodnight Mommy and The Lodge strikes again, and hard. What might look like a new folk horror avatar turns out to be a savage and ruthless historical chronicle that follows the path traced by Christensen with Häxan: how is a woman destroyed and how is a witch created? From its stunning aesthetics, authentic and prodigiously pictural, to its religious syncretism - where paganism is intertwined with christianism - The Devil's Bath fascinates, horrifies, upsets. Anja Plaschg a.k.a. Soap&Skin, who also signed the music, gives a gripping performance that leaves us with a lump in our throats . One of this edition’s big shocks.
