Dragon Dilatation is a diptych grouping two filmic essays dedicated to live performance: Petrushka and The Deviant Comedy. On one hand the rereading of Stravinsky's famous ballet - where Petrouchka becomes a manipulated submissive puppet, crossing into a parallel world in an apocalyptic Europe - and on the other, fragments of an unreleased show that Bertrand Mandico rehearsed at the Théâtre des Amandiers during the Covid crisis. Both films were conceived for double screen presentation and super 16mm, a stylisation of the director’s divergent vision. He pursues his so fundamental reflection on actresses seen in She is Conann, confronted by a barbaric artist. The more we delve into his fantasmagorical filmography, the more Mandico appears to be a political filmmaker, between humanism and pessimism : “Martyred youth will be power’s inferno”.
