On an Okinawa beach, three teenage murder witnesses who detain an irrefutable proof decide to blackmail the young psychopath murderer rather than turn him in. A dangerous game begins between a criminal genius cat and three not so innocent mice.
When the director of several Gamera and some Death Note episodes decides to adapt a successful Chinese drama, he cleverly avoids archetypes, feigning to follow the teenage detective novel path in the style of Enid Blyton, but paints a darker picture and fools those who might still believe in the innocence of childhood. Supported by his amazing young cast, Gold Boy shines both by its plot twists and its disturbing reflection on the relativity of good and evil.
