The life of Grace Pudel, a lonely outcast little girl, a snail collector and avid reader, was blown to smithereens the day her father died. In an indifferent foster family, separated from her twin brother whose letters she eagerly awaits, mistreated by other children, she gradually sinks into depression, until she meets Pinky, an eccentric 80 year old.
Fifteen years after the heart wrenching Mary and Max (2009), the director signs a new animation masterpiece for adults, confirming his interests in shattered destinies. Going beyond the scrutiny of cruelty, injustice and even horror, Adam Elliot opens a door towards hope, deeply moving to viewers. His animated stop-motion plasticine figures are so expressive that their emotions are outstanding. The film won the Gold Crystal in Annecy. We think it deserves every award.
