After her husband’s death, a young woman inherits his wealth and company, but survives a car crash. Now her left eye sees ghosts, of for instance an old schoolmate.
When the loyal duo Johnnie To-Wai Ka-fai takes on fantasy comedy, they at first seem to follow the tracks laid by Beetlejuice and The Frighteners, but then add unlimited wacky humor. It’s maybe the mix of tones that feed the film’s singularity, casually switching from Stephen Chow burlesque to a splendid love story that defies death and touches our hearts. Between this parade of lost souls and these hilarious moments, My Left Eye Sees Ghosts fills our eyes with contradictory emotions, and not just the left one.
