Sayara works as a maid in an Istanbul gymnasium. Her sister is raped and murdered by Baris, the owner, with whom she has an affair, and three of his friends; they all go free with the help of Baris’s father, a corrupt congressman. She decides to avenge her sister using her knowledge of Sambo, taught to her by her father, an ex-special forces commander.
We know Can Evrenol for his Lovecraftian and visceral horror, but when he chooses to change genres, with this feminine revenge movie, it’s just as tetanizing. The impressive Duygu Kocabiyik turns before our eyes from a discreet young woman into a badass heroine that nothing can stop. Evernol remains true to his violent and stylized approach, immersing Sayara in bloody barbarity where bones shatter and flesh bursts.
