Schirkoa : an “ideal” utopia in which citizens wear paper bags on their heads to mask all differences. Everyone is equal, everyone’s the same, until the day a rumor starts about a country without bags…
Schirkoa starts with a science fiction premise close to Ira Levin’s This Perfect Day, with this dictatorship hiding behind the “happiness for all” motto. This openly political animation film is a strange U.F.O (Unidentified Filmic Object), and a critic of dictatorships claiming to make citizens equal by erasing their identities. These individuals, stripped of their expression even in love, give an absurd tragi-comical spectacle, like a mirror of our tormented times.Only their movements and voices (Golshifteh Farahani, Soko, Gaspar Noé, Lav Diaz...) remind us that they’re also humans.
