A sweet schizophrenic plumber, who is serene only under medication, falls into a murderous spiral when he listens to his cat and his dog’s advice…
Ten years later, The Voices remains both Marjane Satrapi and Ryan Reynolds’s best movie. If this very dark comedy is delirious, with its talking severed heads and pets, it nonetheless conceals the infinite sadness of Jerry the plumber’s life, the loneliness of the serial killer, caught in his endless fall. Its dual aesthetics powerfully illustrate the immense paradox of a colorful happiness imposed to forget reality’s absolute horror. The Voices is both joyful and grimy.

Coralie Fargeat

A sort of improbable mix between Dexter and Alice in Wonderland. Funny. Surprising. Free and exhilarating. Between gore and humor, a film that looks American but is far from it. Viva Marjane Satrapi’s craziness…And that cat!
