Conspiracies, ambushes, vendettas, shootings and elegance, this magnificent criminal and gloomy picture is lacking in nothing. It doesn’t conceal its homages to its three obvious models - The Godfather, Once upon a time in America and Carlito's Way - even in its musical score inspired by Ennio Morricone or Patrick Doyle, but keeps in continuity with them without forsaking its Chinese essence. This worthy heir knows how to build up tension, install romantic outbursts, and unfold tragedy with a great sense of the epic and a very striking lyricism, especially when the snow falls.
