Third and final collaboration of the director George Roy Hill (Slaughterhouse Five, The World According to Garp) and the actor Paul Newman after Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid et The Sting, Slap Shot seems to leer on Norman Jewison's Rollerball, released two years before but whose characters are beautiful losers.
