During the Second World War, German soldiers besiege a Romanian haunted castle. Convinced that the place holds a treasure they inadvertently release the demon Molasar who starts to threaten the division.
Paragon of a cursed movie, Michael Mann's second feature film after Thief is one of his boldest projects. In this adaptation of a novel by Francis Paul Wilson, the director combines philosophical reflections with super-stylized mise-en-scene and fantasy elements influenced by a lovecraftish imagery. Re-edited by the producers (from 210 minutes to only 90), released in a rush and seldom shown ever since, this ghost-movie hardly ever screened is a must-see.
