In Spain, on the Costa del Sol, Marjaleena, a 60 year old alcoholic and ex-Miss Finland, runs the almost bankrupt Belle Bar, helped by her son and a handyman. Just freed from a 20 year prison sentence, Worm, her violent husband, aims to live off the loot of a previous heist with his cell companion and lover. That’s not how Marjaleena sees things!
Welcome to the world of the sordid, a world of loser criminals with dirty hair. The filmmaker of the very disturbing Dogs Don't Wear Pants continues in the same vein of noir comedy with the adventures of these awful, dirty, but not so evil misfits. He reaches beyond bad taste and bad smells to gradually get us to like his human wrecks, to find them moving, and plucks the fragrance of beauty from ugliness itself.
