In December 1974, a comet streaks through the sky and crashes on the quiet world of comic books. On board, four partners aiming at publishing their more adult oriented science fiction stories, too experimental for traditional publication channels. These Humanoïdes Associés (Associated Humanoids) are Mœbius, Philippe Druillet, Jean-Pierre Dionnet and Bernard Farkas, and unknowingly, they’re on the verge of changing the face of pop culture forever.
You probably know the rest of the story. In January 1975 the first issue of Metal Hurlant is released. The influence the magazine will have on comic book art, cinema and science fiction in general is immeasurable. Métal Hurlant and L’Étrange Festival share a common DNA. A passion for discovery, the offbeat, the improbable…
For a double anniversary, Metal Hurlant’s half century, and the 30th birthday of L’Étrange Festival’s youngsters, a celebration was imperative. During an exceptional Métal Hurlant carte blanche, Jean-Pierre Dionnet, along with Étienne Robial, Elene Usdin and Lolita Couturier, offer a taste of the “Métal spirit”.
On the program, two feature films: The Isle by Kim Ki-duk and Message from Space by Kinji Fukasaku and many other surprises concocted by our “étranges” authors.
