Czechoslovakia, circa 12th century. During a harsh winter, robbers strip Geman travelers and kidnap the Prince Kristion that they decide hold hostage. Quickly though, their neighbor lords start fighting each others.
It took Frantisek Vlacil 4 years to be able to adapt Vladislas Vancura's novel to the screen and to be able to transcribe again all its intensity in its themes, its narrative and on a figurative aspect as well. Glowing, rare and priceless.
