Réévalué depuis, il est considéré comme le chef d’œuvre de son auteur, un baroud d’honneur à la violence élégiaque, offrant par la même occasion à Warren Oates son plus grand rôle. Le film qui traumatisa Scorcese, Tarantino et John Woo.
