Pour avoir tenté de se suicider, un homme se retrouve interné dans un établissement psychiatrique. Amnésique, cet étrange patient a la capacité de transmettre de manière incontrôlable ses cauchemars dans la tête des personnes qui l’entourent.

Après un passage remarqué au Festival d’Avoriaz en 1983, ce premier - et meilleur - film de Roger Christian avait disparu des radars. Après un apprentissage de décorateur et directeur artistique (Alien, La Guerre des étoiles), il met en scène des visions surréalistes et sanglantes servies par le spécialiste des effets spéciaux Nick Allder, le tout au service d’un scénario qui refuse tout conformisme. Un petit bijou à réhabiliter au plus vite.
