Au XXVe siècle, dans une société totalitaire souterraine, le dénommé THX 1138 transgresse les lois en vigueur en ayant une relation sexuelle avec sa compagne LUH 3417. Il est alors jeté en prison.

En dépit de son échec commercial à sa sortie, THX 1138 est rapidement réévalué, et est devenu un classique, surpassant même dans le cœur des fans l’autre monument de SF que Lucas signera plus tard : Star Wars. The Future is coming…
